Stuff to do while listening to CM
I haven’t had much new material to add to CM over the past few weeks. I’ve been working on another project that might be of interest to some CM fans. And last Tuesday it was published to Apple’s iPhone Appstore. For the past six months in my, ahem, spare time, I’ve been working away at an astronomy program for the iPhone. And finally last week I wrapped up 1.0 and had it published.
Called “Distant Suns” it is the latest incarnation of my baby, first published for the venerable Commodore Amiga back in the dark ages of 1987, making it one of the longest lived consumer software packages on record.
DS is a basic astronomy program, and on the iPhone (or iPod Touch), certainly more basic then on the desktop. It let’s you see what’s going on overheard at night with only the flick of a finger. And it is also, very pretty.

What does it have to do witih Celticmelt? Well, watching the stars silently wheel about overhead to the sounds of Irish harp is just about perfect. Along with some double-stuft oreos of course.

Stone Row now on Celticmelt
I’ve just added 8 tracks from the debut album, Alighnment, by the Celtic/Fusion/World/Rock band Stone Row. With both new takes on traditional tunes and original tracks, Stone Row comes out of New York.
If you like power polkas, try out Chicken Water. Cross Step waltzers will like Singing Again, the second track on their album. The classic She Moved Through the Air has a wonderful middle-eastern feel to it.
Visit their website at http://www.stonerow.com.

I’m not dead yet!
Good heavens, has it been a year since my last entry? Guess so, just to lazy or to busy elsewhere to post about new additions.
Anyway, I just uploaded a number of tracks from the soundtrack to Ken Burns’ latest: The National Parks, which aired last month.
I also just uploaded a bunch from a new CD by composer Christopher Caouette. The title is Alandar, and is part of a project to create a series of pieces which sound as if they came from a fictitious fantasy film. Some are quite rich and strong and should have a film wrapped around them.

More new tracks uploaded
Whew, it’s been almost a year since I last blogged anything here. So sorry, I have been adding a few new tracks per month, just got out of the habit of blogging about them. Just downloaded a CD from Amazon called Tierra De Nadia (No Man’s Land) by Hevia a spanish bagpiper. His music features Celtic, Spanish, maybe a little middle-Eastern and Eastern European flavors.
You may learn more about him at http://www.hevia.es/

Still here!
It’s been a long time since my last update. Sheesh. Just forgot to mention new CDs, etc. The Celtic Women concert comes to my home town over the weekend, at San Jose. Looking forward to that.
In the meantime, May 2, tomorrow, is International Astronomy Day. I have on sale through Sunday, two of my iPhone apps:
Check out my solar-system simulator, Grand Tour 3D.
And then my planetarium software, Distant Suns.
Perfect for playing with while CM is on.

New tracks uploaded!
I’ve just uploaded a whole keg-load of tracks. Two CDs are from the award winning duo of Appalachin music: Steve and Ruth Smith. With their music featured on XM satellite radio, and NPR’s All Things Considered, it’s no wonder why they have served as “cultural music” representatives to places as diverse as Tonga and Thailand.
Another group, The Irish Experience has just released a wonderful new CD called “Green Energy.” There music has been a top seller on iTunes, Rhapsody and CD-Baby. One tune, was even licensed by Hallmark for use in a musical greeting card.
The final CD is “Haunted” by Witherspoon. A Halloween theme is carried throughout the CD. Vocalist Lesley-Anne Raven has an otherworldly resonance in her voice that goes well with the CD’s topic.
My favorite group, KGB, have just released a new CD as well called “The Red Light of Evening.” I had a chance to seem them in person when they performed in Oakland about three weeks ago.

CM in Prague
Nothing much to post to my fan, er, fans. Heh. I just returned from a week in Prague, one of the prettiest cities on the far side of the Danube. I was with a “Vintage Dance” group, learning various dances from the days of yor. Folks from all across Europe and the US came, and in mingling with about 15 or so, I found 3 who were avid fans of Live365. Then I wore my green CM T-shirt (available from Cafe Press) and one gent said “Hey! That’s my favorite station!”
So hello to Brian and Mary! Even though my listenership is down from the halcyon days when CM was up on iTunes, I can still touch a lot of people. And it was fun to actually meet one of those folks face to face.
Cheers,
Mike

Still more new tracks added to Celticmelt
Recently I received two new silvery platters of audio joy from the kind folks at Raven Boy Music and the artists Lisa and Ken Theriot. The two are very talented singer/songwriters among other things (besides doing doing cartoon voices and television voiceovers). With a love of things medieval they are members of the Society for Creative Anachronism (the folks that keep jousting in the forefront of human consciousness), and as such they concentrate on medieval and renaissance flavored music. Some whimsical, others serious but all fun and fascinating pieces. Ken also graciously volunteered to do a promo for the station as well. Ken’s pieces are from his latest CD, Human History, while Lisa’s come from A Turning of the Seasons.
You can find more information about them at www.ravenboymusic.com.

New Tracks to Celticmelt
I’ve just uploaded 9 new tracks to CM from a delightful English folk singer, Kate Rusby. “The Barnsley Nightengale” has earned her reputation through her 7 CDs. Her most recent release, Awkward Annie, being the source of the new tracks. She has a sweet waifish voice, befitting a folk singer, great instrumentals and arrangements.
